How to play

  1. Move with the arrow keys or A and D; jump with Space, W or Up. On a phone, three buttons appear below the playfield.
  2. The longer you hold jump, the higher you go — tap for a small hop, hold for the full height.
  3. Land on a slime from above to squash it and bounce off. Touching one from the side costs a life.
  4. Collect crystals for points, and pick up hearts for an extra life, up to five.
  5. Touch a flag to set a checkpoint — after a fall you resume there rather than at the start of the level.

Pixel Fox is a free platform browser game on DropPlay in which players guide a fox through two handcrafted levels, collecting crystals, bouncing off slimes and reaching the portal at the end. What sets it apart is the presentation: the characters are flat pixel sprites, but they stand in a real 3D scene with depth — blocks, trees, bushes and the goal portal are solid bodies, the camera looks slightly down on the world, and clouds, hills and birds scroll past in several parallax layers. The controls are built for precision and adopt two modern platformer standards: coyote time still allows a jump shortly after leaving a ledge, and a buffered jump press fires the moment the ground returns. Pixel Fox runs straight in the browser on desktop, tablet and phone, with no download and no sign-up.

Tips & strategy

  • Use the coyote time. You can still jump about a tenth of a second after leaving a ledge, which makes most gap jumps far less tense than they look.
  • Buffer the jump. Press just before you land — the press is remembered and fires the instant you touch down.
  • Springs ignore the release. On a normal jump, letting go cuts the height short; on a spring it does not, so you always get the full launch.
  • Bouncing off a slime gives your height back. A chain of slimes is often a faster way across a gap than the platforms above it.
  • Platforms only catch you from above. You can jump up through them, which saves time on the stacked sections.
  • Take the checkpoint before you go for the crystals above the spikes. The order costs nothing and can save you half a level.

FAQ

How do you control Pixel Fox?

On a computer, arrow keys or A and D to run, and Space, W or Up to jump. On touch devices the game automatically shows three large buttons below the playfield.

How many levels are there?

Two handcrafted levels, Meadow Path and Rocky Trail, 160 and 152 tiles wide. Each has a checkpoint in the middle and ends at a portal.

How do you beat the slimes?

By landing on top of them. You bounce off and score 50 points. Touching one from the side costs a life, so the jump from above is the only safe way past them.

Is Pixel Fox really 3D?

The world is. Blocks, trees, bushes, springs and the portal are genuine three-dimensional bodies in a WebGL scene with lighting and fog. The fox, the slimes and the butterflies are flat pixel sprites standing inside it — the mix gives the world depth without giving up the pixel look.

Does it need a fast graphics card?

No. The scene renders at a deliberately low resolution and is then scaled up, which keeps the pixels crisp and costs almost no fill rate. Any device with WebGL handles it.

Is my record saved?

Your highest score is stored in your browser through the LocalStorage API and never leaves your device. Progress within a run is not saved — a run is meant to be played in one sitting.
